B.A.R.K.  Build A Rescue Kennel

B.A.R.K. began as a support organization for the Yerington Animal Shelter.  The original intent of the group was simply to make life more tolerable for the dogs incarcerated there, waiting for a loving home.  They raised funds and built exercise areas, added shade roofs, got shots and vet care for the dogs in need.  The group's vision has grown over time.  Eventually, this small group even facilitated getting a new cement kenneling area with a building erected at the city shelter.

In 2007, BARK became involved in the rescue of the Gabbs Dogs.  Orphaned, when their owner died, living on a remote ranch in Gabbs, Nevada, 145 dogs hit national news.  BARK members have spent their time and resources caring for the Gabbs dogs and many other rescued dogs.

In 2008, prayers were answered as founding members,  Bev and Larry Beaman, took over management of Safe Haven Kennels. BARK was invited to house the rescue dogs there at the kennels. This year, BARK is proud to announce that they have now taken over management of Safe Haven Kennels and have a permanent place to home the dogs while they rescue, repair, rehabilitate, re-educate and re-home the homeless dogs of Mason Valley, Lyon County....and sometimes beyond.

What We Do

B.A.R.K. is Yerington's local non-profit (501-c-3) Canine Rescue Group.  Safe Haven Kennels is the home of B.A.R.K. and the rescue  dogs.  

Our goal is to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome dogs that have come from desperate situations.    BARK is looking to expand our facility and it's membership to meet the growing needs in and around our community.  In our current economic times; unfortunately the animals often suffer the most.  Many dogs are being surrendered to shelters or dumped.
